PANJAB
UNIVERSITY
Panjab
University has a long tradition of pursuing excellence in teaching and research
in science and technology, humanities, social sciences, performing arts and
sports. The University supports excellence and innovation in academic
programmes, research, scholarship and teaching. For more than a century, it has
served various societal needs with distinction. The Indian Council of Social
Science Research has set-up it's North-Western Regional Centre on the Panjab
University Campus. The Centre runs a library, a seminar complex and a guest house
for visiting scholars under its study-grants programme.
DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
Founded
by Dr. S.S. Bhatnagar at Lahore in 1925, the department of Chemistry is one of
the prestigious departments of Panjab University. Several faculty members are
recipients of coveted awards such as Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award, Jawaharlal
Nehru fellowship, Raman and Palit awards.
Many faculty members are bestowed with F.N.A., F.A.Sc., F.N.A.Sc., The
department has been selected by the UGC first for COSIST and Special Assistance
Programme (SAP) and it is the Centre for Advanced Studies in Chemistry (CAS)
for the last 16 years. The Department of
Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has accorded it the status of
"DST-FIST Supported Department”. The department is well-known for its
research activities and has very well equipped research laboratories including
state of the art Central Instrumentation Laboratory (CIL).

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The department is holding this conference for the first time to
celebrate the achievements of women scientists and to motivate the young female
students and researchers and create awareness about the endless opportunities
available to them in the field of research.
The objective of the two day conference is to help shatter stereotypes by exposing students to
female role models in science and to help spark both their curiosity and
self-belief in disciplines where girls have traditionally been
under-represented.
This symposium will focus on all the fields of Chemical Sciences:
Ø Carbon Materials,
Nano Technology and its applications
Ø Environmental
pollution control and management
Ø Polymer Composites
and Pharmaceutical Technology
Ø Natural Resource
Management, Greener environment and Innovation
Ø Inorganic/
Organometallic Chemistry/ Synthetic Organic Chemistry
Ø Theoretical/Analytical
Chemistry
The
scientific sessions would include lectures by eminent women scientists from
various research fields in chemistry. This would provide a platform to students,
research scholars and faculty members to learn and share their research
findings with honorable scientists in their respective fields.
The thesis presentation session will be held for
research fellows (who have submitted their thesis within the past six months)
to provide them opportunity to express their views and scientific work. In
addition an oral presentation session will be held for research scholars who
have completed at least three years in research. Young scientist award will be
given to the outstanding research fellows. Another session will include three
categories of poster presentations i.e.
by undergraduate, post-graduate students and research scholars and each
category will be evaluated separately.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME
The conference
will begin on 13th January, 2017 with an inaugural
function. The technical sessions will comprise of invited lectures, oral
presentations and poster sessions. All aspects of emerging areas in chemistry
will form the part of the scientific sessions.
